Quick answer: The best Android racing game with controller support in 2026 is Rush Rally 3 (US$5.99), whose Play listing promises full controller support and which has a free demo for testing your pad first. For free play, Beach Buggy Racing and Rally Fury both list gamepad support. For circuit racing, pick GRID Autosport or GRID Legends.
Plenty of Android racing games say “controller friendly” in a review and nowhere else. For this list I kept only games whose own Google Play listing says they support a gamepad or controller. If the developer doesn’t say it, the game isn’t here, however popular it is. Prices, ratings and update dates below come from Google Play (US) and were checked on 19 October 2026. No hands-on testing claims are made. See our editorial policy for how we research and update guides.

1. Rush Rally 3: best overall with a controller
Rush Rally 3 is a paid rally game with stage racing, rallycross and multiplayer. Its listing also mentions offline play. On controllers, the description says “full support for all MFi controllers”. MFi is Apple’s accessory programme, so it’s an odd phrase on an Android listing. Read it as the developer committing to proper controller support, but test your own pad before you rely on it. The easy way to test is the free Rush Rally 3 Demo (4.4 stars, 5M+ downloads): pair your controller, run a stage and check the throttle, brake and handbrake mapping.
Price: US$5.99 (in-app purchases). Rating: 4.7 stars, 500K+ downloads. Last updated: 18 Aug 2026. Google Play listing.
Worth it if: you want one paid racing game without ads and you’d rather play on a controller than on glass. Skip if: you only want free games.
2. GRID Autosport Custom Edition: best free-to-try circuit racer
Feral Interactive’s port of GRID Autosport is free to download. Extra content is sold as in-app packs, so you can try the handling before you spend anything. The listing lets you choose between tilt, wheel touch, arrow touch and gamepad controls. Of the games here it’s the closest to console-style circuit racing. Its 3.8-star rating is the lowest on the list, so read recent reviews for your phone model before you buy any packs.
Price: Free (in-app purchases). Rating: 3.8 stars, 1M+ downloads. Last updated: 26 Feb 2026. Google Play listing.
3. GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition: best premium, no in-app purchases
GRID Legends is a one-off US$14.99 purchase with no ads and no in-app purchases. The listing advertises “total gamepad support” next to touch and tilt controls. That price makes it the most expensive game here. Its last update on Google Play is 21 May 2025, so check that your device is supported (the listing shows compatibility) and that the refund window is still open after you buy. Google explains how in its Play refund help page.
Price: US$14.99, no ads or in-app purchases. Rating: 4.4 stars, 10K+ downloads. Last updated: 21 May 2025. Google Play listing.
4. Rush Rally Origins: best top-down racer for a pad
Rush Rally Origins is a remastered top-down rally game from the same developer as Rush Rally 3. Its listing says it is “designed to work with both touch screens and game controllers”. A top-down camera tends to suit a d-pad or thumbstick better than a cockpit view does, so this is a good pick for a short, simple controller session.
Price: US$5.99 (in-app purchases). Rating: 4.3 stars, 100K+ downloads. Last updated: 25 Aug 2026. Google Play listing.
5. Rally Fury: best free rally game with gamepad support
Rally Fury is free with ads and in-app purchases. It lists “GAMEPAD SUPPORT for most popular gamepad controllers” and Android TV support, which matters if you’d rather race on a TV than on a phone. The listing mentions eight rally vehicles plus single-player and multiplayer modes. With 100M+ downloads, it’s the most installed rally game on this list.
Price: Free (in-app purchases, ads). Rating: 4.0 stars, 100M+ downloads. Last updated: 22 Sep 2026. Google Play listing.
6. Beach Buggy Racing: best free kart racer and split screen
Beach Buggy Racing is a kart-style racer with power-ups. Its listing supports USB and Bluetooth gamepads and includes split-screen multiplayer, which makes it the easiest free choice for a tablet or a phone connected to a TV. The free version has ads and in-app purchases.
Price: Free (in-app purchases, ads). Rating: 4.5 stars, 100M+ downloads. Last updated: 7 Oct 2026. Google Play listing.
7. Riptide GP: Renegade: best for local multiplayer
Riptide GP: Renegade swaps cars for hydro-jets. It costs US$2.99 and has no ads or in-app purchases. The listing supports gamepads and split screen for up to four players, but notes that additional gamepad controllers are required. Budget for extra pads if you want a full sofa race.
Price: US$2.99, no ads or in-app purchases. Rating: 4.5 stars, 500K+ downloads. Last updated: 27 Aug 2026. Google Play listing.
8. Extreme Car Driving Simulator: best free open-world driving
This one isn’t a race-the-pack game. It’s a free-roam driving sandbox with 500M+ downloads, and its listing lists gamepad support. It suits younger players or anyone who wants to drive around without racing. It’s free with ads and in-app purchases.
Price: Free (in-app purchases, ads). Rating: 4.3 stars, 500M+ downloads. Last updated: 16 Oct 2026. Google Play listing.
Is there any AI in these racing games?
Only in the traditional sense. Computer-controlled rivals have been called “AI” in racing games for decades. Of the games above, only Rally Fury’s listing names them, promising “challenging AI opponents” in single-player. None of the listings mentions generative AI, AI-driven difficulty or AI upscaling. We won’t claim features the developers don’t, so if a store page or ad promises “AI graphics” for one of these games, treat it with caution. Controller support matters much more here than any AI label.

- Best for split screen with friends: Riptide GP: Renegade (up to four players with extra pads) or Beach Buggy Racing.

Popular racing games we left out, and why
We left out Asphalt Legends, CarX Street, Need for Speed No Limits and Wreckfest because their Google Play descriptions didn’t mention controller support when we checked. They might work with a pad, but we couldn’t confirm it from the developer. If you already own one, look for a controls or input section in its settings. Real Racing 3 isn’t listed because EA shut its servers down in March 2026.
How to connect a controller to Android
- Put the controller in pairing mode. Check its manual for the button combination.
- On your phone or tablet, open Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. Wording varies by brand.
- Select the controller, then open the game and look for a controls, input or gamepad setting.
- Run one short race before you buy anything or commit to a long session.
Wired USB-C controllers and clip-on phone controllers usually skip the pairing step. Button mapping is still decided by each game. If you play on a tablet, our guide to tablet gaming screens and controllers explains what to look for.
